What is your business background to becoming an Angel Investor?
Originally a building contractor and glazing wholesaler, I moved into identifying and licensing new products and idea in the 70's. These include:
- Smoke screen security
- Door Viewers
- Custers Fast Food
- Home Choice Videos (over 600 mobile franchisees in the UK alone)
- and many more.
What was your investment philosophy and what successes have you had as a serial entrepreneur?
My philosophy was to create, develop and later sell these businesses.
I was the founder of Trophy Pet foods, the UK's largest and now longest established pet food home delivery company, which I sold in the early 90's and is still the UK's number one.
Any other successes as a Serial Entrepreneur?
I also formulated, manufactured and marketed a series of health and dietary products throughout the UK, Ireland and the USA in the 80's, achieving sales in excess of £20m PA.
I was on the board of the Prince of Wales Trust in Manchester for many years and ran numerous businesses during the past 40 years, that included:
- A wholesale furniture warehouse
- Two Hotels
- And numerous and substantial property deals and acquisitions.
I was one of the originators of the current franchise system, and I still notice many of my ideas and style of marketing being used today!
Could you provide further details on your property portfolio?
The property and land site that I have featured on my investor profile on Venture Giant is the ex-base of many of my businesses and which is now on sale at £7m, as you will see from the property site details.
I also own a portfolio of property and sites throughout the north of Manchester worth in excess of £10m.
